Using Cardboard Storage Boxes
Cardboard storage boxes are some of the most practical means by which we can reorganize our house and begin to sort what benefits us now and what is better off in storage until the time is right for it to see the light of day once again. The best cardboard storage boxes I have found are ones that are found in supply stores all over the place. A lot of people are always asking if one type is better then another, but when push comes to shove, all of these boxes are linear in what they do and accomplish for you.
Wasting money on boxes that are supposed to be “heavy duty” or marketed as the next greatest thing since sliced bread is usually just clever marketing in action. Cardboard is, after all, just cardboard. The only way you can go wrong with your boxes is if they are poorly manufactured and there are too many gaps between spaces; if you are putting a lot of stuff in these boxes in the first place then you should be taping them up securely regardless of anything else.
In my experience, whenever I needed cardboard storage boxes in the past I would just go down to any big store in my local vicinity and just ask the shipping department for any unused or leftover shipping boxes they no longer need. I have been able to personally gather a few dozen boxes this way and I am confident it has saved me a couple hundred dollars in the process.
Always be smart when you are putting things in storage – if you are just putting things in your attic then there should not be many problems with these kinds of boxes. If you are doing more crazy types of storage or moving then something like metal storage boxes may be more up your alley and what you need to be using. Cardboard is great for things within its reason but by using your best judgment you can always tell the best way to pack and store your possessions.
