Scuba Diving Weight Guide

If you are fairly new to scuba diving but want to buy a diving weight, then hopefully the following short guide will help you find a good quality product at a good price. Start by deciding on whether you need the diving weights on their own or a combined dive weight belt and then keep an eye out for the prices as it may work out cheaper to buy them separately.

A good scuba diving weight belt made of cordura nylon by XS Scuba is both affordable and guaranteed to last. Different weights of 20, 30 and 40 pounds are available are they are recommended by the Scuba Lab Tester. Another well warranteed and thought of product is a set of diving ankle weights from McNett. Both sets of diving weights can be found for great prices online in specialist scuba gear shops.

If you are more of the DIY type, you can have a go at making a diving weight yourself. Watch out for those lead fishing weights when you go diving, collect a stack and buy a mold from Trident to use. You will also need a gas stove and an aluminium pan to complete the process. Bend a spout into the pan before you start and make sure to use a pair of pliers to hold the pan whilst heating. Clean your lead, place it in the pan and smelt away.

A good option to find used dive weights is of course the treasure hunters paradise of Ebay or Craigslist. Keep an eye on the auction listings for a period of time and you are sure to come across some good bargains. You might also come across some second hand weights at a garage sale or through an advert in your local paper. A little bit of research and persistence is bound to pay off.
