Making Your Home Your Own
When it comes to your home everything you own is an expression of who you are. From the littlest of details like your wall clocks all the way to your furniture, guests will see you in your things. With this in mind take a look around your home and see what others see. Is this how you feel about yourself or is time for something new?
If you decide its time for a little revamp of your home then you need to start with a plan. First off you need to know what look you strive for. Is it contemporary, country, shabby chic – you get the picture. Then you need to take a look at what you already own and can use in your theme. Maybe you can start from your furniture and decorate around it to keep costs down. Perhaps you have something like a barstool that you want to decorate your whole place around!
Once you have decided where you are going to start then you need to get rid of all the things that just don’t flow. Give them away, pack them away, just get them out of your sight. Remember out of sight, out of mind! Now that you have everything cleared out you really can get a good idea how far you need to go. You will probably discover a need for new paint now that its been de-cluttered. Pick a bold shade for a contemporary look and a soft soothing shade for almost any other. Rich, dark shades can also be used in a European decor for a luxury look.
Now you need to redecorate! Get online and find your new furnishings, you don’t want what everyone else got down town do you? If you can’t find it online then hit up the areas small stores and antique markets, maybe even the local art galleries. If you truly want a place that shows you then you need to go the extra mile.
Once you have everything in place it’s time to celebrate. Invite the neighbors, your friends, and your family over to see how you see yourself. I’m sure that they will all be blown away and be asking for advice on their own homes!
