Fly Fishing Chest Packs – Storage

There are a few things that you can think about before you purchase your new fly fishing chest pack, or even begin browsing through the vast array of options available for all of the fly fishing chest packs on the market, but by far, one of the main things that you want to keep in mind is the amount and type of gear you carry with you on a typical fly fishing trip. If you are an angler that loads down with everything but the kitchen sink, you probably aren’t going to see too many benefits from a small fanny pack, whereas if you are a light packing angler, you don’t need a full over the shoulder chest vest and backpack.

For most anglers, all you are going to need to carry are the basic necessities. Items such as line clippers, pliers, extra line and leaders, your fly fishing flies, and the trusty old polarized sunglasses can easily be stored in most fly fishing chest packs, but when it comes time to storing more gear than this, you are going to want to think about where you normally keep it, to ensure that you purchase a vest with pockets in easy to reach areas.

Being uncomfortable in your fly fishing vest will make for a bad day on the water, and can actually cause you to become discouraged at the thought of going out for the day. Unfortunately, this problem happens all too often when people are purchasing low quality fly fishing vests, instead of spending the money up front on a vest that they will get to enjoy for more than one fishing season, or even just a single fishing trip. As long as you think about the types of gear that you carry with you on a typical trip, you can save yourself a lot of time, money, and frustrations from having to deal with a poor fitting, or low quality fly fishing chest pack.
